2025 Grand Finals Wrap ~ 16/18s A~ by Pam Ryan

Hawks Take the Title in 16/18s Division Grand Final

After theheart-pumping14/15s Grand Final, the 16/18s Division was a masterclass in composure from the well-drilled Hawks John Davis Motors outfit, who clinched the championship with a 43-17 victory over a brave and resilient Kinross U17s.

    Hawks Build Momentum

The first quarter was a tight, low-scoring affair, with both teams finding their feet. Hawks edged ahead to a 9-6 lead, thanks in large part to two strong intercepts by athletic defender Macy Maunder. Her presence on court proved a telling factor all game. Up the other end, Ryley Simmons was all class with her fluid movement and accurate shooting, showing why she's such a threat.

In the second quarter, the Hawks really hit their stride, quickly breaking down Kinross’s less structured play. Their lead stretched out to 19-10 by halftime, with Shaylee Holmes in the mid-court delivering fantastic passes to her attacking end. Amber Sorenrenson also kept the scoreboard ticking over for the Hawks.

Kinross's Resilience and a Final Flourish

Credit goes to the Kinross team who played with determination and never dropped their heads. But Hawks defensive combination of Macy Maunder and Brianna Elliott was a tough challenge for their opponents. But even with the intense pressure from the Hawks’ defence, Kinross kept putting in the effort. Alice Dymock and Sienna McFarlane were two standouts for the school team.

The pace and pressure from Hawks were simply too strong in the end. A highlight of the game came in the final quarter—a beautiful, booming pass into the circle from Shaylee to Ryley, who finished it off with a neat goal.

A perfect moment to cap off their fantastic season. Congratulations to both teams on their Grand Final performance.
